What are the bunkers at Kincaid Park?
The sites housed nuclear missiles in bunkers around Anchorage and Fairbanks during the Cold War. Midway up the mountain that looms over Arctic Valley, a decrepit, weather-beaten one-room building sits in the tundra by an old gravel road. Tiles peel off the floor and broken circuitry hangs out of the wall.
What did Kincaid Park used to be?
The park was originally used as Nike-Hercules missile storing site during 1950s. The land was transfered to Anchorage in 1980 and have been develpoed as a park.
Are dogs allowed at Potter Marsh?
Potter Marsh is an easy boardwalk path walk along the Seward Hwy and the marsh. There is a wide variety of wildlife in this area (bald eagles, bear, moose, and more) so you may want to bring a camera. No pets are allowed. There is free parking and bathrooms on site.
