What is the treatment for vertebral artery dissection?
First-line treatment for cervical artery dissection usually is antiplatelet agents (such as aspirin) or anti-coagulation to prevent the formation of blood clots. Antiplatelet drugs such as aspirin or clopidogrel may used alone or in combination.
Is a vertebral artery dissection a stroke?
Vertebral artery dissection (VAD) is a rare cause of stroke in the general population, but one of the more common causes of stroke in patients younger than 45 years of age. Its signs and symptoms can be vague, making diagnosis difficult.
Is vertebral artery dissection a disability?
A Failure to Diagnose a Vertebral Artery Dissection (VAD) Can Lead to a Stroke, Permanent Brain Damage, and Usually Disability or Death to a Child.
How long does it take for vertebral artery dissection to heal?
Yamaura et al. proposed that a ruptured dissecting aneurysm enters into a healing stage approximately 1 month after the initial SAH. In Mizutani’s series21), only 10% of rebleeding occurred more than one month after the initial hemorrhage.
Can neck massages cause strokes?
Neck massage should not be performed by patients. Neck massage/manipulation continues to be a cause of stroke to consider. Ischemic stroke after CS and carotid body manipulation is due to thromboembolism by rupture of a plaque or by hypoperfusion due to repetitive hypotension.
Why is the cadiss trial so important?
The CADISS trial is, to our knowledge, the first randomized clinical trial in the treatment of carotid and vertebral dissection that recruited the target and had complete follow-up of all patients to 1 year. Therefore, it provides the most robust data on which to guide therapy in this disease.
Who are the authors of the cadiss trial investigators?
Epub 2015 Feb 12. Authors CADISS trial investigators; Hugh S Markus, Elizabeth Hayter, Christopher Levi, Adina Feldman, Graham Venables, John Norris Collaborators CADISS trial investigators:
What does cadiss stand for?
Antiplatelet Therapy vs Anticoagulation Therapy in Cervical Artery Dissection: The Cervical Artery Dissection in Stroke Study (CADISS) Randomized Clinical Trial Final Results ISRCTN.com Identifier: CTN44555237.
Did we use prespecified imaging criteria in the cadiss study?
We did not use prespecified imaging criteria; doing so might have improved the accuracy of diagnosis. CADISS was designed as a pragmatic trial and therefore the choice of antiplatelet drugs was at the discretion of the clinician. Prescription of dual antiplatelet treatment for all patients might have improved efficacy.
