What is spattering in art?
Spattering is a painting technique in which paint is flung, with the flick of a brush, onto the painting surface. Most often associated with watercolor, this technique is used to create interesting textural effects, as in Summertime (at right) where I spattered over the flowers with a variety of colors.
How do you paint stage scenery?
Use wide, flat brushes to paint scenery in the distance, such as the sky or rolling hills that disappear into the horizon. Keep the colors in the distance lighter to help with perspective. Bringing darker colors into the backdrop as you work your way closer to audience perspective helps deepen the overall effect.

What is scenic paint made of?
Scenic paint is composed of three parts: the binder, the pigment and the medium. The binder is what makes the paint adhere to the surface to which it is applied, the pigment gives the paint it’s color, and the medium is designed to disappear as the paint dries.
What is the difference between Scumble and glaze?
A scumbled layer is where paint – usually opaque – has been brushed on without the addition of medium, allowing parts of the underneath layers to show through. A glaze is a thin layer of paint – which has been mixed with medium – brushed over a previous layer or layers.
