What is Margard Lexan?
LEXAN™ MARGARD™ sheet offers optical clarity in combination with a unique abrasion and UV resistance, which can make it an excellent candidate for safety and security glazing to suit a wide range of applications. It can be used for both flat and curved glazing.
What is Margard coating?
Lexan® Margard MR5E sheet is a premium grade, hardcoated, high optical quality Lexan® polycarbonate sheet for building and vehicle safety & security glazing. The Margard hardcoat gives improved abrasion and chemical resistance and maintains the UV protection of standard Lexan® Exell D polycarbonate sheet.
Is Lexan scratch resistant?
It is highly resistant to acids and chemicals, such as gasoline. It has a low level of flammability, which is essential in certain industries. LEXAN polycarbonate is also available in a variety of flexible (film) grades. The cons of LEXAN are that it is easier to scratch, and minor scratches cannot be polished away.

How do you get scratches out of Lexan?

- Wet sand the scratch out with 1500-2000 grit sandpaper.
- Rub in some Novus #2 until the area clears up.
- Polish out the remaining fogginess with Novus #1.
Is polycarbonate Lexan scratch resistant?

How strong is Lexan?
Lexan is an extremely strong material that is almost unbreakable. Safety glass is not as strong. Tempered safety glass has an impact strength that’s five times higher than “normal” annealed glass of the same thickness, while Lexan has an impact strength that’s 250 times that of annealed glass.
How can you tell Lexan from Plexiglass?
While Lexan is easier to cold bend whereas Plexiglass is easier to cut and also has a cleaner, more attractive glue joint than Lexan. Unlike Lexan, Plexiglass can come in a variety of different colors, making it perfect for intricate designs.
Can you use Windex on Lexan?
never, ever, use cleaners containing ammonia. Cleaners such as Windex or 409 will harm your new piece of polycarbonate. Use only products specifically recommended for cleaning polycarbonate such as Novus #1, or Brillianize, and a soft cloth. (All are available in our showrooms and OnLine).
Can I polish Lexan?
Lexan-safe polish includes LP Acrylic Polish & Sealant, Prism Polish or Diamondite Plasti-Care, which come in different forms. Some allow you to pour the product onto a cloth, while others are a cream or a spray.
Is Lexan or plexiglass better?
Overall Strength Lexan is the strongest and can withstand impacts to such a degree that it won’t crack. Instead, it displays resistance by bending. Plexiglass is still quite strong, but it may crack or chip, given enough time or impact. That’s because it’s a little less rigid than Lexan.
