What do guinea pigs need in their cage?
Enclosures should be lined with newspaper and then at least 5cm of soft, nontoxic, nonabrasive, inedible, dust-free and absorbent bedding to provide cushioning and prevent foot problems. Suitable options for bedding include soft grass hay, fleece fabric, and shredded paper.
Do guinea pigs need shots?
While guinea pigs do not require any vaccinations, it is recommended that you take your pet to a veterinarian familiar with guinea pigs at least once each year for a routine checkup.
Should you cover a guinea pig’s cage at night?
Guinea pigs sometimes sleep with their eyes open, so the darkness a cage cover provides is ideal for them. However, since these animals sleep for short periods, they are awake and alert during various times throughout the night.
Do guinea pigs use a litter tray?
Your guinea pigs will soon learn that their litter tray is where they eat and go to the toilet. Change their tray daily to every second day as a clean toilet will encourage them to use it more. This also applies for floor time, always supply a litter tray.
Can you put a guinea pig in a tank?
A fully grown guinea pig measures 8 to 12 inches in length. Because of this large size, you would need a habitat that is at least 30 by 36 inches. If you choose to house two guinea pigs, the size would need to be 30 by 50 inches. In terms of aquariums, that’s roughly a 50 to 75 gallon tank.
