Are Surtees Boats any good?
I have always been impressed with Surtees boats and this one didn’t disappoint me at all. My favourite features are the ballast hull design and big, open deck space. This is a real fisherman’s boat that would be just as home in the north of Australia as it would be in the cool, wild waters down south.
Did Bar Crusher copy Surtees?

With six sealed, tested buoyancy chambers, the 2100 hull provides masses of reserve buoyancy and exhibits the sort of stability at rest you’d expect from a Stabicraft boat. Stability underway is also exemplary and trim tabs are probably not required except in specific applications.

Surtees is the name of an ancient family in the county that reckons amongst its ancestors Barons of the Palatinate, as far back as the 12th century, the name signifying “on the Tees”.

A barcrusher is a Surtees. Originally Barcrusher imported the Surtees hull and put their own touches to the cabin, electrics, paintwork and the fold down roof etc, in their Melbourne factory. At the time Surtees was sold in NZ as a work boat.
Are the Surtees boats welded?
The surtees boats were fully welded along their internal stringers. The bar crushers were only stitch welded. I wouldn’t base my decision on the seating. For a $5k saving, you can add a decent sounder package and upgrade the seating to whatever you like. Either way, i’m sure any of thse boats will put a huge smile on your face when you launch it.
What are the dimensions of the crusher?
The 6.1 Bar Crusher is built with a 5mm bottom, 4mm sides and 4mm checker-plate floor. It has six stringers that run from the transom until they run out in the bow.
