How do I borrow a book from USYD Library?
If you would like to borrow an item that is on loan to someone else, you may be able to request it. This option is available on the item listing in Library Search, under “More options”. The person it is loaned to will be asked to return the item. Once available, the item will be placed on hold you will be notified.

If you have a City of Sydney account, it’s easy to complete a membership form to join our library.
- Go to the library online catalogue and select Join.
- Log in using your City of Sydney account email and password.
- Select Join the library.
- Follow the prompts to compete the library membership form.

Can anyone go to Macquarie Library?
Conditions of entry. In accordance with NSW Government Public Health Orders, Macquarie University Library is open but please observe COVIDSafe protocols. How many books can I borrow USYD Library?
University of Sydney staff and students can borrow up to two items at a time from this high-demand collection. Items from the short loan collection are not available for other Library members.
How long can you borrow Library books?
Answer: You can keep most books for three weeks. In some libraries, there are Quick Read collections which can be borrowed for one week so that as many people as possible have a chance to borrow them. You can borrow CDs and DVDs for one week.
How do I join the National Library of Australia?
To be eligible for a standard library card you must live in Australia and supply an Australian residential address. International visitors may apply for a temporary onsite library card when visiting the National Library in person.
