Is DofE internationally Recognised?
The DofE is proud to be part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation which supports operators in more than 130 countries and territories to deliver DofE and increase opportunities for young people.
What counts as volunteering for DofE?
Volunteering is simple. It’s about choosing to give time to help people, the community or society, the environment or animals. Your volunteering must not be done for a business but can be undertaken for a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
Who can participate in Duke of Edinburgh Award?
14-24 year-olds
14-24 year-olds can do a DofE programme at one of three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, leads to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold.
Do you have to pay for DofE?
Everyone receives a DofE Card to get discounts on things like kit and expeditions don’t need to be expensive.
Can adults do Duke of Edinburgh Award?
Yes. Under existing DofE rules, participants can be granted a period of time in which to complete their DofE after their 25th birthday if they need it because of illness or other circumstances.
How do you get the Duke of Edinburgh International Award?
The Award is a program of activities….The key elements of our program:
- Age Open to all between the ages of 14 and 24.
- Three Levels Bronze, Silver, and Gold, each progressively more challenging.
- Four Sections Physical Recreation, Skills, Voluntary Service, Adventurous Journey, plus Residential Project (Gold Level only).
How much does it cost to volunteer for Duke of Edinburgh?
You need to do at least six months Volunteering and a minimum of six months on either Physical or Skills and three months on the other.
How many hours Volunteering do you have to do for bronze DofE?
How long does the Voluntary Service section take? At Bronze level = 1 hour each week (or 4 hours every 28 days) over 3 months/13 weeks (note that Bronze participants are required to do an additional three months in one of the following activities: Skills, Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation.
How do you join the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme?
To join a group and get your adventure started, please register using the enrolment form. You’ll need to decide which level of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award you are going to sign up to, either Bronze, Silver or Gold and make the appropriate payment to complete the registration.

The Assessor should be a professional who is supporting you with your caring role, ideally from a Young Carers Project or Social Work/Youth Work departments.
