What happened to Clandon Park?
Clandon Park is a modern ruin. In 2015 a huge fire ripped through the Palladian mansion, destroying the upper floors and roof, and gutting the house. But the strong brick walls survived, and today Clandon Park is cloaked in scaffolding, sheltered from the wind and rain.

Clandon Park was one of the country’s most complete examples of a Palladian mansion, built for the Onslow family in the 1720s. Given to us in 1956, the house showcased a superb collection of 18th century furniture, porcelain and textiles. Here you can catch a glimpse of how Clandon looked before the fire in April 2015.

Project restarts We expect the work to begin in mid-2021 and to take at least two years. It will include careful repairs to conserve the very fine remaining brickwork and stonework throughout the house which remarkably almost entirely survived the fire.

Is Clandon Park free?
The garden at Clandon Park is now open. You can visit every day between 11am and 4pm. There’s no need to book a ticket, but parking is limited. The house will reopen for bookable guided tours each weekend from Saturday 7 May.
