PETA was founded in 1980 and is dedicated to establishing and defending the rights of all animals. PETA operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.

Some of our positions do require you to be vegan (e.g., all positions related to campaigns, fundraising and development, and media spokespeople). However, many roles do not require this. We look for compassionate people to work for the organization.

PETA and the PETA Foundation are two separate entities that work very closely together, and one couldn’t exist without the other. What does PETA do to help animals?
Since its inception in 2001, PETA’s mobile clinics have helped to prevent the births and inevitable suffering of hundreds of thousands of unwanted dogs and cats in Virginia and North Carolina, all through low-cost or free sterilization surgeries.
Where can I get my Dog spayed or neuter in Norfolk?
PETA has once again partnered with the Friends of Norfolk Animal Care center to offer free spay and neuter surgeries for dogs and cats of Norfolk residents. Rabies vaccines and microchipping are also free for surgical patients. This clinic will be offered on the second Wednesday of the month and is by appointment only.
How many animals does PETA spay and neuter in Virginia?
PETA’s Mobile Clinics Division (MCD) spays and neuters hundreds of companion animals every week in Southeastern Virginia in three state-of-the-art mobile clinics. Each clinic is capable of spaying and neutering up to 28 animals per day.
