What is an ND patch?
ND Patch is a pre-applied process which fuses a nylon threadlocking coating to internal or external threads of fasteners making them self-locking and self-sealing (also known as a prevailing torque type fasteners).
What is Nylok patch?
NYLOK® Red Nylon TORQ-PATCH® is a self-locking element comprised of nylon permanently bonded onto the threads of a fastener. When the NYLOK® Red Nylon TORQ-PATCH® is engaged, it creates a wedge between the fastener and mating part compressing the nylon and creating metal to metal contact opposite the patch.
How does a nylon patch work?
When the patch is engaged, it creates a wedging action between the nut and mating part, compressing the nylon and promoting tight metal-to-metal contact opposite the patch. This metal-to-metal contact provides a positive resistance to vibration and loosening.
What is a patched bolt?
: a bolt used in the repair of boilers and of ships with hulls of steel plate that has a countersunk head with a square knob which is twisted off when the bolt is screwed home.
Can nylon patch screws be reused?
This metal to metal contact results in a positive resistance to vibration and loosening. Since nylon has great memory characteristics, this locking element can be reused several times.
How does a Nyloc nut work?
Nyloc nuts feature a nylon collar in the top portion of the nut that locks the nut in place by essentially squeezing the threads of the bolt as the nut is tightened. In scientific terms, the friction that is created by the radial compressive force of the nut turning against the thread prevents it from loosening.
Can nylon be patched?
For every RIP, TEAR, WEAR and HOLE. RIP FIX (Repair All) nylon repair patches are designed for all of your fabric repair needs. The ultra-strong adhesive sticks extremely well.
What is blue Loctite used for?
Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 locks threaded metal fasteners against loosening from machine vibration. It prevents leaks and rusting of metal threads for 1/4- to 3/4-Inch (6 mm to 20 mm) nuts and bolts. Metal parts can be removed with hand tools for easy disassembly if necessary.
What is pre-applied threadlocker?
Henkel’s complete range of LOCTITE® pre-applied coatings eliminate the need to apply sealants, adhesives or any other locking or sealing device to threaded parts during manual or automatic assembly. These dry-to-touch pre-applied coatings are applied to screws and bolts commonly used for high volume parts.
Can Nylock nuts be reused?
Nylock nuts are the most common and inexpensive self-locking aircraft nuts. These elastic insert nuts are inexpensive and almost infinitely reusable. Nylock nut tensile strength is rated at 125,000 psi with a 250°F temperature rating.
Can you torque Nylock nuts?
Typically there are the “Nylock” or elastic stop nuts, and the “all-metal” lock nuts. The rule of thumb is to add the prevailing torque to the torque value when applying torque to a Nylock nut. This is because the prevailing torque doesn’t contribute to bolt tightening. It is just friction that needs to be overcome.
Can puffer jacket be repaired?
If your down jacket has a rip or tear, you should try to fix it as soon as possible to prevent that precious down from escaping. The good news is that you can often make the necessary repairs yourself, with minimal skills and equipment – and it won’t usually require sewing.
