Happy Birthday Johnny!

Yesterday, I asked Johnny (my three year old), “If you could do anything on your birthday, what would it be?”. He replied, “Go on a train, ride in a fire truck and THEN go to the movie theater.” And then he walked away.

This morning, I woke up determined to make this the best birthday for my favorite little guy.

But I totally messed up.

My plan was to take him to Enchanted Island, at Encanto Park. We arrived there so pumped to ride on the roller coaster, the train….EVERYTHING! We skipped to the entrance….and BAM. A “Closed” sign hung on the gate. I was more devastated than he was. He said, “Oh…that’s just too sad”. (I felt like Chevy Chase in Lampoon’s Vacation when he punched the moose in the nose at Wolly World….don’t worry…..I didn’t punch anything).

Determined to fix this, I googled for local fire stations.

Seriously….the firefighters at Phoenix Fire Dept Station 9 are AWESOME!! As soon as we arrived, Tyler (one of the firefighters) made Johnny feel like a special guest.

The captain came out and asked if Johnny and I wanted to take a ride in the fire truck. YES!!

After a bunch of high-fives, fist-bumps and hand-shakes (and a big thank you from us), Tyler asks if Johnny wants to use the fire hose. This crew is amazing and I can’t thank them enough for making Johnny’s day.

If you live or work in this neighborhood, consider yourself lucky to have such awesome firefighters.  :)

Linda Ramsey - Hi Kym: Your firefighter friend, Tyler, is our son. He was once three too and the local volunteer fire department in our little town in Manitoba, Canada, were also very good to him and he remembers that. He has realized his life long dream so far from us, but we wouldn't have it any other way, for him to be happy. Thanks for sharing, we're extremely proud of Tyler.
